A sacked officer of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) who allegedly looted a Chittagong shrine last year amassed a fortune shortly after the incident, police have found in interrogation. The investigator has collected relevant papers of his wealth, police sources said. In the five-day interrogation from June 10-14, police found that Zulfiqar Ali Majumder bought land worth Tk 52 lakh in Bhanga, Faridpur a month into the looting. The law enforcers have obtained the certified copies of the land deeds. Zulfiqar along with black and plain clothes Rab men allegedly stormed Talsara Darbar Sharif in Anwara upazila and looted Tk 2.07 crore on November 4, 2011. He was a lieutenant colonel of the army and the commanding officer of Rab-7 during the looting. The army authorities sacked him after finding him guilty of the crime. Zulfiqar is also found to have deposited Tk 35 lakh for a Tk 1.13 crore apartment in Dhaka after the robbery, police sources said. Asked, Inspector Abdus Samad, the investigation officer, declined to give any detail about the information revealed in the interrogation. “I will submit a detailed report to court within a day or two,” he said. Zulfiqar was arrested in Dhaka on May 3. On June 7, a Chittagong court asked police to interrogate him in jail and rejected the investigator's seven-day prayer.
