Road crashes kill 5, injure 35

Five people were killed and 35 injured in separate road accidents in Thakurgaon, Gazipur, Lalmonirhat and Naogaon on Saturday and yesterday. Our Thakurgaon correspondent reports, Khogandranath Barman, 50, died as a tractor hit him from behind on Baliadangi-Ranishankoil road at Gandagram in Ranishankoil upazila on Saturday night. In another accident, ten people were injured as a bus collided head-on with a truck on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway at Salondar Bazar in the sadar upazila yesterday. BSS from Gazipur says, motorcyclist Kamruzzaman, 28, died instantly as a mini bus rammed his motorbike on Dhaka-Mymensigh highway in Board Bazar area on Saturday morning. In another incident, a bus hit a three-wheeler from the opposite direction on the highway near Biman office in Rajendrapur area on Saturday, killing Amjad Hossain instantly and injuring five others. In Lalmonirhat, a nine-month-old baby was killed and 20 others injured when a bus fell into a ditch beside Lalmonirhat-Patgram highway at Bhakaripool bridge in Kaliganj upazila on Saturday night. Following the accident, locals blocked the highway for eight hours. UNB from Naogaon adds, Omisa Bibi, 60, wife of Sagir Uddin, died as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit her while she was crossing the road in Bangabaria area in the town on Saturday afternoon.
