“Your govt. is not people friendly”
How would you feel while living abroad, a representative of a company tells you that your government is not people-friendly? Well, this is exactly what the representative of a phone company that provides inexpensive telecommunication service told me.
This phone company serves the people of 60 different countries including Pakistan and India. Unfortunately, Bangladesh is not covered despite the fact that hundreds of thousands of Bangladeshis live in the United States.
I asked the representative of the company why wasn't Bangladesh included in the package? He replied, “It is political.” I asked what he meant by that. He said, "Your government is not people-friendly."
I then said, “Do you mind explaining?” In reply he said your government does not believe in the welfare of the people. Your government does not want you to be able to save some money and live a little more comfortably."
Well, dear readers, can you imagine what an embarrassment it is for somebody to hear all these about his government while living abroad. Feeling embarrassed and disappointed, I withdrew, telling the representative, “let me think it over and then I shall get back to you.”
Subsequently, finding no other alternatives, I went for the package to talk to my friends and relatives back at home at an additional cost, which the Bangladesh government imposes on its foreign currency earners.
