Sufia Kamal's birthday today
Today is the 101st birthday of late Sufia Kamal, a renowned poet, social reformer and pioneer of women's rights movement in Bangladesh. President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave messages recalling the poet's contributions. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad will hold a memorial lecture in the capital's Biam auditorium at 4:00pm paying tribute to Sufia Kamal, its founding president. Born in Barisal, the poet passed away on November 20, 1999.
