Thank you, BGB!

We have learnt from a recent report of this daily that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and coast guards pushed back 44 Myanmar nationals. These people are the victims of current deadly sectarian violence in the Rakhine state of Myanmar. These refugees tried to enter Bangladesh by a trawler under gusty and rainy weather and their trawler was damaged at the shoreline of Cox's Bazar. In this misery, a baby was born on the trawler. While entering Bangladesh, there were 43 refugees in that group but the number rose to 44 including that newborn baby when they were pushed back by the BGB. In fact, BGB could not allow them to enter due to a recent decision of Bangladesh government to resist intrusion of Myanmar nationals. But the generosity BGB has shown is that they did not push the trespassers back by that damaged trawler immediately; they provided them with a new fishing trawler for their return journey. However, we do not know what happened to those people on their journey back home. But we can guess after reading the news reports on these incidents that many of those Rohingya people including a large number of women and children, who were thus pushed back by the BGB are still floating on boats in the Bay of Bengal in search of shelter. They fear to land on the shoreline of Myanmar lest they become victims of further attacks. Anyway, we thank BGB for its good gesture towards the refugees by not breaking the law of the land.
