Kids exercise skills at English language fair

A daylong English Language Fair was held in six schools of Brahmanbaria, Magura and Nilphamari districts yesterday. The Daily Star and Robi jointly organised the fair to improve the proficiency of secondary school students in English. Our Brahmanbaria correspondent reports: Students of Kasba Government Girls' High School and Kasba Adarsha High School of the district took part in the fair held in the girls' high school. Inaugurating the fair, the girls' high school Headmaster Ayesha Khatun said this wonderful event encouraged students to learn English in an easy, interesting and different way. The fair began with the screening of a movie, The Lion King. Afterwards, quizzes and competitions on vocabulary, moral lessons, extempore speech and role playing and writing picture descriptions were held based on the movie. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners and an English language club was formed in the school. Afterwards a meeting was held where Kasba Adarsha High School Headmaster Md Helal Uddin and assistant teachers Tanbhiruzzaman, Azizur Rahman and Md Humayun Kabir spoke. Our Magura correspondent reports: Some 110 students of RSKH Institute and Rani Patit Pabon Secondary School in Mohammadpur upazila of the district took part in the fair at the institute's auditorium. The institute Headmaster AKM Nasirul Islam inaugurated the fair. The movie was also screened here, based on which the students took part in the quizzes and competitions. Afterwards, prizes were distributed among the quiz and competition winners. Our Nilphamari correspondent reports: Around 350 students of Nilphamari Government Girls' High School and Nilphamari Government High School of the district took part in the fair. The girls' high school Headmaster Kamrunnahar Begum inaugurated the fair at the school's auditorium and Nilphamari Government High School Headmaster Abu Noor Md Anisul Islam delivered the welcome speech. The movie was screened here, based on which the students took part in the quizzes and competitions. Under English in Schools programme, the fair in also being coordinated by the education ministry while Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner.
