Encourage students to study science
Says Matia Chowdhury
Students must be encouraged to study science so that they become experts and present new discoveries before the world, said Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury yesterday.
“Although our young generation is interested in using new technologies like computers, the number of science enthusiasts is comparatively less,” she said.
Matia was addressing a discussion organised by Peshajibi Nari Samaj, a platform of working women, in the capital's Dhaka Reporters Unity celebrating 100 years since Marie Curie won the Nobel Prize.
Marie Curie was awarded first the Nobel Prize for Physics with husband Pierre and then the chemistry prize on her own in 1911. It was the couple's discovery of polonium and radium that earned them the Nobel Prize in 1903.
Matia said Marie Curie's successes only made her more dedicated into working for the development of science.
