Environment Olympiad begins June 30
Carrying the theme 'protection of the environment is the protection for all', the country's very first Environment Olympiad will begin on June 30 in the capital to create awareness among the people.
Bangladesh Paribesh Andolon (Bapa) and North South University are jointly organising the Olympiad, said a press release.
The programme will transmit a message to all especially the young generation that it is everyone's responsibility to protect the environment individually and collectively, said Bidhan Chandra Paul, chief coordinator of the event, at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity yesterday.
The Olympiad will include open speeches, question-answer session, experience and view-exchange on the environment, he added.
The Olympiad is the brainchild of late Prof Muzaffer Ahmad, eminent economist and former president of Bapa, who was a strong advocate for environment protection.
The event will be held annually. Initially, it will be held in the capital with about 500 college and university students participating. Later, students from all over the country will be included in the competition.
