Non-govt Secondary Schools
Strike July 3, 4
Bangladesh Shikkhak Karmachari Oikya Parishad, an organisation of secondary schools' teachers and employees mostly, yesterday called strike for July 3 and 4 at non-government secondary and higher secondary educational institutions across the country to press home their 17-point demand, including nationalisation of their jobs.
They will also hold demonstrations at upazila level on July 3 and district level on July 4 and will announce tougher programme if their demands are not met within July 4.
Atiar Rahman, one of the conveners of the parishad, announced the programmes at Central Shaheed Minar in the capital after holding a daylong demonstration.
The demands include implementation of National Education Policy-2010 for nationalisation of the country's education sector immediately, increasing annual increment, house rent and other allowances to eliminate the existing discrimination between government and non-government teachers and raising retirement age up to 65.
Earlier on the day, they submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through her protocol officer and a delegation of the organisation met Prof Alauddin Ahmed, education adviser to the prime minister.
Atiar told The Daily Star that they had announced the programmes as they had not got any specific assurance from the government of fulfilling their demands.
