Teacher murdered over land dispute
Unidentified criminals hacked a school teacher to death and severely injured his brother at Sonatanpunji hillock in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet yesterday.
The victim, Bakhtiar Ahmed Momin, 25, hailed from Barobond village and was a teacher of Sylhet Model KG School. His elder brother, Amin Ahmed, was admitted to Kanaighat Upazila Health Complex with injuries to the head.
The duo was guarding their orchard on a makeshift structure, some 17 kilometres off the upazila headquarters, where they came under attack at dawn. The criminals hacked Momin on the chest, killing him instantly, said police.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College morgue for autopsy at 3:00pm.
Officer-in-charge of Kanaighat Police Station, Md Rafiqul Hossain, said there was a longstanding dispute over the khas land on which Momin's family had planted the orchard a long time ago.
