Instead of increasing power prices, the government should shut down the diesel-run power plants that were set up recently. Subterraneo
Good news is that fuel prices in USA will drop in the coming months, as analysis suggests, to less than $80 by November. That will lessen our fuel import costs and possibly help reining in the rise in electricity prices. Reza
DESCO has already increased the power price since March. Shouldn't they wait until this decision is finalised? What is happening? Mohammad Nurul Hoque, Malaysia
Why not 100%? We are not getting electricity but paying the bill! It's really a big joke. Nasirullah Mridha, USA
Frequent power price hike is unbearable. As the government spent Tk 20,000 crore for rental power plants, it should bear the losses. Why would the public bear the losses? Anonymous
Continual increase in electricity price will soon make it a prohibitive commodity for the common people. The government, to narrow the subsidy burden, has chosen the easy alternative of price increase. But please suggest an alternative for the fixed income group. Will they get their connection cut off and plunge into darkness? If they have to accept this as their destiny, then why should there be a government? We the common people are fed up with the unending story of development told continuously by the ruling party. Are we meant for listening to the fairy tales of the government and cast our votes to put this storyteller in power to rule us forever? Manzoor Ashraf
It is high time the Bangladesh government stopped borrowing to subsidise utilities when hardly anyone pays tax in Bangladesh. So no one has the right to scream about price hike.
