BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday reiterated his demand for the restoration of the caretaker government system prior to the next general election. He said caretaker government system was revoked as part of the government's ploy to cling to power. “The ruling party is hatching a conspiracy to hold the next polls under the grand alliance government so that it can stay in power by manipulating the polls,” he said while addressing a programme at Thakurgaon Sadharon Pathagar organised by the district unit of BNP. “BNP in no way will allow the next national election if it is not held under a caretaker government,” he added. He said the government has violated many of its election pledges. The common people are struggling to cope up with the rising prices of essential commodities along with the price hike of electricity. Shahed Kamal Chowdhury Dalim, vice president of the district unit BNP chaired the meeting. Former lawmaker Mojahar Hossain, central leader of Jubo Dal Farhad Hossain and general secretary of district unit BNP Taimur Rahman were also present.
