Govt to promote Grameen initiatives: Dilip Barua
Industries Minister Dilip Barua yesterday said the government would promote Grameen Bank initiatives to produce biogas, bio-fertiliser and bio-electricity through using biotechnology.
The minister made the remark when Grameen Bank Chairman Prof Mozammel Haque called on him at the Industries Ministry and submitted some proposals of the bank.
During the meeting, Barua said bio-fertilisers can play an important role to make the country's arable land more fertile and boost production alongside protecting the environment and nature.
Terming the Grameen Bank's proposal of producing biogas, bio-fertilisers and bio electricity using the biotechnology as realistic, he said that application of biotechnology can help save energy and remove scarcity of electricity in the country.
About the operation of Grameen Bank, he said it has been functioning as per the Grameen Bank ordinance and there is no scope for the government to take over the bank.
Replying to a question, the Grameen Bank chairman said there is no negative impact on the bank after the removal of Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, the founder of Grameen Bank.
