Zamir made ADB expert
Muhammad Zamir, chief information commissioner of the Information Commission of Bangladesh, has been appointed as a transparency expert of Asian Development Bank (ADB).
ADB announced on Monday the appointment of three transparency experts, including Zamir, to serve as members of its new Independent Appeals Panel for a period of three years, said a press release of the bank.
Among the experts was Surasee Kosolnavin, an attorney and president of the Sathirakoses-Nagapradipa Foundation in Thailand and a former executive director of Official Information Commission there.
The other expert was Maeve McDonagh, deputy chair of the Press Council of Ireland and a law professor at University College Cork there.
To strengthen access to information, the Independent Appeals Panel was established under ADB's revised Public Communications Policy, which took effect on April 2.
The panel will serve as a second and final appeals stage to provide independent recourse to parties who believe ADB has incorrectly denied requests for information.
The addition of the independent panel, which was one of the many changes brought under ADB's revised policy, will enhance the credibility and independence of the appeals process, the press release said.
Zamir had served as a secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
