Tk 306cr budget for DU
The Dhaka University (DU) authorities yesterday announced a budget of Tk 306.20 crore for the 2012-2013 fiscal with a deficit of Tk 36.80 crore.
The DU Treasurer Prof Kamaluddin placed the budget at a two-day Senate Session at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium.
Vice-chancellor Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique chaired the session participated by the members of the senate. The proposed budget will be approved today (Thursday).
Of the total amount, University Grants Commission will allocate Tk 237.40 crore, while Tk 32 crore will come from the university's internal incomes.
About Tk 247 crore will be spent for salary and pension of teachers, officers, and employees, while about Tk 2.92 crore will spent for research activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Arefin Siddique said they will try to make the university a global standard.
He also sought cooperation from the university's teachers, officials and staffers to attain the goal.
In the budget session, one minute silence was observed to mourn the death of the people who became the victims of land slide in three hilly districts in the country.
Immediate trial of the killers of the journalist couple Sagor-Runi was also demanded in the house.
Meanwhile, a group of pro-opposition teachers of the university walked out the session for few minutes.
