4 polytechnic students hurt in attack

Four students of a private polytechnic institute were injured in an attack by some youths in Farmgate area in the capital yesterday. The victims are Jubayer Hossain Mithun, Mohammad Shamim, Aminur Rahman Antu and Rangan. They are the sixth semester students at National Polytechnic Institutes (NPI) of the area. Antu told The Daily Star that a gang of six youths attacked them with sharp weapons and sticks when they were gossiping in front of their campus around 11:00am. The attackers stabbed Mithun and Rangan indiscriminately, he said. Omar Faruque, officer-in-charge at Tejgaon Police Station, said attackers are students of Dhaka Polytechnic Institute. Quoting locals, he said the incident took place following an altercation over sitting at a place in front of the NPI campus. The injured were taken to a local hospital 'Al Raji Hospital' in the Farmgate area and later, shifted them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
