English needed to enter global economy
To enter global economy, English communication skill is very important for interactions with others, said AK Azad Chowdhury, chairman of University Grants Commission (UGC), at a workshop yesterday.
The workshop styled 'Transforming English Language Skills in Higher Education Sector of Bangladesh' was jointly organised by the British Council and UGC at the commission's office in the capital.
Education Secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury said education quality and access to education are some of the struggles of the government.
The government adopted a Nation Skill Developing Policy to develop the quality of education focusing mainly on English and ICT skills, he said.
Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr AMMS Arefin Siddique, British Council's Regional Higher Education Manager Ben Isaac, was present among others.
