Our Correspondent, Ctg
A crew of a fishing vessel on the Karnaphuli river was killed yesterday when a thick rope attached to the anchor of the vessel got accidentally coiled around his neck. The deceased Md Shariful Islam, 22, hailing from Jessore, was a second officer on the F.V. Pride owned by Continental Marine Fisheries Limited. Witnesses said one edge of the rope was caught in the anchor's hook and when Shariful went to separate the two his neck somehow got tangled in the rope. But by then the anchor had been dropped in the water straining the rope around his neck.
