Four policemen closed in Natore

Four policemen were withdrawn from Abdulpur Police Investigation Camp (IC) on Thursday on allegation of taking money from gamblers at Lalpur upazila in Natore. The officers closed at Natore police line were Lutfar Rahman, in-charge and sub-inspector (SI), Nazrul Islam, SI, and Mostafiz and Uzzal, both assistant SI, of Abdulpur Police IC. Sayfuzzaman Faruki, additional superintendent of police in Natore, said some youths have been gambling regularly near the IC area. On Wednesday, a police team from the camp raided the spot and allegedly took away around Tk 3 lakhs from the gamblers, he said. This agitated the gamblers, who later attacked the IC, vandalising its valuables including doors and windows, and assaulted SI Lutfar, Faruki added. Later, additional police from Lalpur Police Station rushed to the camp and brought the situation under control. Lutfar, however, denied taking any money from the gamblers. Departmental investigation of the incident is going on, Faruki said. Mantezar Rahman, SI of Singra Police Station, has been made the new in-charge of Abdulpur Police IC, he added.
