Japanese medical visa for Bangladeshis launched

Japanese government has launched a medical visa system for Bangladeshi patients to make travelling to Japan for treatment easier, speakers said at health seminar yesterday. The programme, commemorating the 40 years of Bangladesh Japan friendship, was held at Radisson Blue Water Garden Hotel in the capital. Medical Excellence Japan in collaboration with Emergency Assistance Japan (EAJ) and Emergency Assistance Bangladesh (EAB) organised the programme. “Bangladesh has a shortage of high-tech medical equipment and physicians and I hope the Japanese government will help us in this area,” said Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque. Japan has a unique treatment of cancer named Heavy Ion Radiation therapy that can treat inoperable cancer even at home. Japan is also the pioneer in steam cell therapy, which can be revolutionary in treatment of paralysis to return to active life, said Dr Hirohiko Tsujii, a specialist doctor from Japan. “Collaboration between Japan and Bangladesh in the medical field goes back a long way," said Dr Mahumud Hasan, president of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA). Dr Sheikh Aleemuzzaman, chairman of EAB, Koji Fujimoto, director of Healthcare Industries Division in Japan, spoke among others.
