Huge amount of drugs destroyed in Rangpur

Drugs worth about Tk 50 lakh were destroyed on Rangpur Police Lines premises marking International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking yesterday. Police in Rangpur seized the drugs from various places of the district at different times. The destroyed drugs included 11,000 bottles of phensidyl, 68 litres of locally-made Bangla wine, 1 lakh Indian sex stimulant Paratric tablets and 2,850 bottles of banned Black Horse juice. Rangpur District Judge Hasan Shaheed Ferdaus, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Kamrun Nahar, Judicial Magistrate Mahamudul Islam, Deputy Commissioner Forid Ahmed, and Superintendent of Police Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, among others, were present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Saleh Mohammad Tanvir said police will start special drives against the drug trade in all eight upazilas in Rangpur district. A total of 141 cases were filed with different police stations against drug traders in the district in different times till yesterday, he said.
