DU's founding anniversary celebrated

Dhaka University students, teachers and staff celebrated the university's 91st anniversary amid fanfair and festivity yesterday. Themed “Higher Education for Empowerment of Women”, the day began with DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique hoisting the national and university's flag and cutting a cake before the Registrar Building in the morning. Afterwards, a colourful procession paraded the campus and ended at Teacher-Student Centre at 10:00am where a discussion was held. DU Treasurer Prof Kamal Uddin presided over the discussion where the VC, pro VCs --Prof Nasreen Ahmad and Prof Shahid Akhtar Hussain -- and Registrar Rezaur Rahman spoke. Prof Arefin said DU produced not only graduates but also brave people who sacrificed their lives for the nation through different movements, including the language movement and Liberation War. Later different programmes, including blood donation, debate, friendly football match, cultural functions and drawing competitions were held.
