14 Shibir men arrested
Seven Islami Chhatra Shibir activists were arrested yesterday after they clashed with Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men in the vicinity of Bara Aulia Degree College in Lohagara upazila in Chittagong.
Police picked up another seven Shibir activists of Rajshahi University (RU) unit after they clashed with law enforcers in Katakhali Bazaar, our university correspondent reported.
In Chittagong, the arrestees are as Md Miskat, 18, Md Ilias, 21, Md Saifuddin, 20, Md Mizan, 18, Md Kawsar, 16, Md Morshed, 22, and Md Idris, 18.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lohagara Police Station Md Shahjahan said the two groups clashed after the Shibir men allegedly destroyed a gateway, which was made by college unit of BCL activists to welcome newly enrolled students.
Some twelve people injured in the clash were admitted to the upazila health complex, Shahjahan said.
A case was filed in this connection, reported our Chittagong correspondent.
In Rajshahi, the detained are Abdus Salam, Mobarak Hossain, Anwarul Islam, Zulfikar Ali, Nabiul Islam, Faizul Azim, and Khairat Hossain.
Around 150 Shibir men clashed with police when the latter obstructed a procession brought out by the activists in Katakhali Bazaar area, police said.
