2 schoolgirls drown
Two schoolgirls drowned in Begunbari Jheel in the capital's Tejgaon Industrial area yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Bristi, 6, daughter of Abu Sani, a rickshaw puller and Boishakhi, 7, daughter of Mohammad Sayeed, a rickshaw-van puller of Begunbari area in the capital.
Locals said the two children drowned in the jheel around 2:30pm when they went there to take a bath.
They were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared them dead.
Family sources said Bristi and Boishakhi returned from school around 11:30 and went out for roaming the jheel area.
Ilias Hossain, an inspector of Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, said police are investigating the matter.
