8 killed, 10 injured in road crashes
Eight people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Mymensingh, Chittagong, Rangpur, Lalmonirhat and Meherpur on Saturday and yesterday.
Our Mymensingh correspondent reports, three people were killed and eight others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a truck on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Kathali in Bhaluka upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased are Mokhlesur Rahman, 30, the bus driver, Enamul Haque, 28, and Rakibul Hasan, 25, of Trishal upazila.
Bhaluka police said a truck hit a bus in the area and the bus fell into a roadside ditch around 8:30am, killing three people and injuring eight others.
Mokhlesur succumbed to his injuries at Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex while Rakibul at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Of the injured, five were admitted to the hospital.
In another accident, Junayed, 4, son of Tara Miah, died instantly when a truck crushed him on Mymensingh-Haluaghat road at Naghra in Haluaghat upazila around 9:00am yesterday.
In Chittagong, Abul Kashem, 34, a vegetables trader, was killed and two others were injured as a covered van hit a Nosimon from behind at Uttar Idulpur at Shitakunda upazila yesterday.
Injured Abul Hossain, 60, and Khokon, 35, were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
In Rangpur, Aminul Islam, 16, a class IX student of Dharmadas High School and son of Nayon Mian of Dharmadas Laxmanpara village in the sadar upazila, was killed instantly as a truck ran over him while he was crossing Rangpur-Dhaka highway in Damdama Bridge area in the upazila yesterday morning.
Following the accident, agitating people blocked the highway for one hour demanding a speed breaker on the spot. Hundreds of vehicles remained standstill on the both sides of the highway during the protest.
Later, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
In Lalmonirhat, day labourer Aliul Islam, 23, son of Sohidar Rahman, died instantly as a stone-laden truck ran over him while he was crossing the road at Burimari land port in Patgram upazila yesterday noon.
BSS from Meherpur adds, Allo, 5, daughter of Alamgir, was killed when a locally made vehicle 'Alomshadhu' knocked her from behind while she was crossing Bamundi-Kajipur road in front of her house near Golambazar area in Gangni upazila on Saturday.
