Steel mill in Ctg fined
Department of Environment (DoE) fined a steel mill Tk 25 lakh on charges of polluting the environment and running its activities without the approval of the DoE in Chittagong city yesterday.
The DoE conducted a drive in Nasirabad Industrial Area on Saturday and found a steel mill of Benz Industries (Bangladesh) Ltd, Saleh Steel Mills and Bayezid Steel Mills polluting environment and running their activities without the DoE's approval.
The three mills were summoned for a hearing in this respect at the DoE Chittagong office where only the authorities of Benz Industries (Bangladesh) Ltd were present and fined, said the DoE source.
“As the authorities of the other two mills were not present we could not take any action against them. We will wait for two to three days and if they do not contact us, we will close their factories”, said the assistant director of the DoE, Chittagong.
