VC rebukes errant doctors
Vice Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Dr Pran Gopal Datta warned a number of doctors who were either absent in their duties or were late in attending office at the hospital yesterday.
The VC went to a round through the hospital and found some doctors were absent and late in their duties in the outpatient department and some other departments.
“When the vice chancellor was in a round through the outpatient department, he found some doctors were absent. He wanted to know the reasons from their respective departments, and immediately called the doctors over the cellphone and rebuked them,” Muhammad Salah Uddin Siddique, private secretary to the VC told The Daily Star.
BSMMU director Brig Gen Md Abdul Majid Bhuiyan told The Daily Star that there were rumors that 10 doctors had been suspended and some others had been issued notices to show cause why they were absent or late to work.
“Actually the vice chancellor warned the doctors verbally,” he said adding that the office time starts at 8:00am in the BSMMU.
Meanwhile, the VC's warnings have created mixed reaction among the doctors, medical officers and senior professors at different departments.
