Ex-Indian president due tomorrow

Former Indian president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam will arrive here tomorrow on a two-day visit to attend the 33rd Foundation Day Celebration of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (Cirdap). Dr Durga P Paudyal, director general of Cirdap, made the announcement at a press conference at Cirdap cafeteria last evening. This will be Dr Kalam's second visit to Bangladesh. He first came here on July 19, 2009. During his stay in Dhaka, he will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and deliver Cirdap Foundation Day lecture on “Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA). Dr Kalam is scheduled to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 3:15pm and will be received by officials of the foreign ministry, High Commission of India and Cirdap. On the first day, he will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Prime Minister's Office, attend an interview by a TV channel and attend Cirdap Foundation Day dinner. On the second and concluding day, the former Indian president will attend the celebration of Cirdap's 33rd foundation day and deliver the lecture. He will also be interacting with children and youths of Bangladesh and Cirdap member countries at 3:00pm on that day. He is due to leave for New Delhi at 6:00pm Thursday. Cirdap was established on July 6, 1979, and is headquartered in Chameli House, Dhaka. Its 15 member countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh (host state), India, Indonesia, Iran, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Fiji.
