The two female Everest conquerors of Bangladesh yesterday urged fellow women to continue their efforts to bring about a positive change in the life and attitude of all women in the country. Nishat Majumder and Wasfia Nazreen expressed this at a reception programme organised for them by Bangladesh Mahila Parishad at Jatiya Press Club in the capital. Earlier, the country people had a negative outlook towards women indulging in activities such as mountain climbing, said Nishat. “After our conquest, a positive change has come that inspires fellow women in the country”, she added. “Our achievement will be effective when it brings about change to the life of at least 10 women and we have to work till then”, said Wasfia. Everybody should spend a part of their life working for the country's welfare, she said, pledging to work for young girls to enable them to bring a positive change to Bangladesh. Nishat became the first Bangladeshi woman to conquer the Mount Everest, reaching its peak on May 19, while Wasfia achieved the feat on May 26. Ayesha Khanom, president of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, said Nishat and Wasfia inspired women to be brave and work to bring change in their lives. Maleka Banu, general secretary of the Parishad, also addressed the programme.
