2 abducted girls rescued, 4 held

Police arrested four people from Mistripara area in Chittagong city in connection with compelling girls into prostitution by force on Monday night. The arrestees were Moahmmad Suman, 36, his wife Poli Begum, 24, Harun-or-Rashid, 35 and Abdul Jalil alias Sagar, 27. Nurul Absar Bhuiyan, officer-in-charge (OC) at Bakalia Police Station, said the arrestees were involved in alluring poor teenage girls of giving jobs and forcing them into prostitution. Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive at a flat of a four storied building in the area around 11.30pm, he said adding that two victims were rescued during the drive. Earlier, a woman filed a case with the police station, Nurul Absar said. The OC did not want to disclose name of the woman who made the complain. A case was filed in this connection, and the arrestees were produced before a court in Chittagong yesterday noon. Quoting confessions of the arrestees, police said Sagar took a daughter of the complainant, residing at Natun Bridge area in the port city, by assuring her of giving a job on September 5, 2011. Later, he sold the complainant's her daughter to Suman with Tk 8,000 on that day, the police said. jr
