After the country's independence, some disagreements brewed between Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Tajuddin Ahmad; and the anti-liberation forces took the opportunity to create a distance between them. Bangabandhu asked Tajuddin to resign and also sent a draft of the resignation letter to him. Tajudddin forwarded the resignation letter as per the draft. "This had caused harm to both of them and most of all to Bangladesh," said eminent educationist Prof Emeritus Anisuzzaman in his Tajuddin Ahmad memorial speech yesterday. Tajuddin Ahmad Trust Fund organised the event titled "Tajuddin Ahmad's thoughts on the country" at Dhaka University. Tajuddin, a key organiser of the War of Liberation and the first prime minister of Bangladesh, was not given due honour for his vital contributions to the nation, Anisuzzaman said adding, "It is more regretful for us than for himself." Tajuddin would nourish the ideology of secularism and would oppose religion-based politics in the country, Anisuzzaman said. DU Vice Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique said Tajuddin was brutally killed in a prison cell along with three other national leaders on November 3, 1975, for his patriotism and dedication for the truth. Tajuddin's daughter Sharmin Ahmad said her father was much more advanced from his time, but Bangladesh failed to promote his ideology.
