8 business organisations fined

A mobile-court yesterday fined an importer Tk 5 lakh for storing and selling 30 kinds of imported products, including baby food, without clearance of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). The importer- Pacific Beverage and Food Ltd at Tongi- also used 'standard mark' of the BSTI illegally and mentioned fake expiry dates on their products. The BSTI and Gazipur district administration jointly conducted the drive. In another drive, a mobile court of BSTI fined Tk 65 thousand to seven business organisations in Dayaganj, Gandaria, and Jatrabari area of the capital on charges of preserving food in an unhygienic environment and using weighing machine without the BSTI approval.
