Pak tourist rescued after being washed away
Two people, including a university student, drowned in separate incidents in Sylhet and Cox's Bazaar on Thursday and yesterday.
Staff correspondent from Sylhet reports, a student of Sylhet Agricultural University drowned in a pond on the campus on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased Shariful Islam, of Dhanua at Shibpur in Narsingdi, was a second year student of fisheries faculty.
Campus sources said Shariful, along with others, went to the pond for bathing after joining rag day celebration of the first batch of agriculture faculty. Later, he had gone missing.
Shariful was rescued after half an hour and was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
UNB from Cox's Bazar says, a private bank official Mamunur Rashid, 32, drowned in the Bay of Bengal while he, along with three others, was taking bath at Sugandha point of Cox's Bazar beach yesterday afternoon.
Sources said Mamunur was caught in quicksand and, later, was washed away by waves.
Beach rescue workers recovered his body.
Meanwhile, Pakistani tourist Shahed, 30, was washed away by waves while he was bathing at Laboni Point of local sea beach yesterday noon.
Later, he was rescued alive.
