Health Minister AFM Ruhal Haque yesterday said they will take decision about GPA-based admission system in the country's medical and dental colleges after directives of High Court in this regard. “We are looking forward to hearing the High Court's directives in this regard,” he said in the capital's ICDDR, B auditorium. On August 14, the government decision to introduce the GPA-based admission system replacing the traditional admission test was challenged in the High Court. The court ordered the authorities to explain why the new system would not be declared illegal. A hearing will be held in the High Court today (Monday) following a writ petition seeking the court's direction to the government to start admission process immediately keeping the existing process. But agitating students say the government can start the admission process in the existing system, as there is no obstruction to do so according to the HC ruling. They will hold a rally with the civil society members today at the Central Shaheed Minar at 10:00am and after which they will submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister's Office to press home their demand. They announced the programme at a press conference at Dhaka Reproters' Unity yesterday. Meanwhile, around one hundred admission seekers in a group yesterday formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club welcoming the government's decision to enroll the students without holding admission test. The government had taken decision to admit students into the colleges from the current academic year based on their SSC and HSC exam GPAs on August 12 that sparked uproar among admission seekers across the country.
