Brother-in-law makes confession

Arrested brother-in-law Mohiuddin Hasanat, the main accused in the killing of 12-year-old madrasa student Ashikur Rahman Talukdar Rifat, confessed his involvement in the murder. Police disclosed the matter at a press conference at the office of superintendent of police in Narayanganj yesterday. On August 11, the body of Rifat, a student of Class V of Senpara Baitul Mamun Madrasa at Mirpur in Dhaka, from a jungle in Navana Bhuyan City residential area in Siddhirganj in Narayanganj. Hasanat told police that he killed Rifat to take revenge of his physical assault (with shoes) by his mother-in-law. He hired two of his friends for Tk 30,000 to kill Rifat and paid Tk 5,000 in advance. Later, he along with his two friends abducted Rifat from Monipuripara in the capital and took him to Navana Bhuyan City in Siddhirganj in Narayanganj and slaughtered Rifat in an adjacent jungle there and fled to his native village. Earlier, on Friday night police arrested Hasanat from Shitalpara village in Nalchiti upazila of Jhalukathi. Police also arrested Hasanat's friend Saiful in connection with the murder.
