Says new envoy in Dhaka
Vietnam is keen to improve political and economic relations with Bangladesh in the coming days, newly appointed Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Nguyen Quang Thug said yesterday.
He was speaking to President Zillur Rahman at Bangabhaban after presenting his credentials to the latter.
Welcoming the new envoy at Bangabhaban, the president said excellent bilateral relations that exist between Bangladesh and Vietnam was time-tested and rooted in the rich common heritage and cultural affinity.
He said the ideal and principle of Vietnam and Bangladesh were similar as both the countries achieved their independence and sovereignty through liberation wars of bloodshed and sacrifice.
The president said the Bangladesh government was committed to further develop and strengthen the existing bonds of friendship and cooperation with Vietnam.
The Vietnamese ambassador pointed out to the president that the export volume of Bangladesh to Vietnam doubled last year. “This increasing trend of export of Bangladeshi products to Vietnam will continue in the days to come,” he said.
The envoy said his country was keen to import more Bangladeshi pharmaceuticals, jute and jute goods and ceramics considering their world-standard quality.
He assured the president that he would put in his best efforts to improve economic and investment relations between Bangladesh and Vietnam.
Earlier on his arrival at Bangabhaban, the new ambassador was given a guard of honour by a contingent of the President's Guard Regiment.
