Two pro-AL, one pro-BNP teachers elected JU deans

Two pro-Awami League and one BNP backed professors won the Jahangirnagar University deans' election yesterday. AL backed Prof Abul Hossain was elected dean to the mathematical and physical sciences faculty and Prof Abul Khayer to the biological sciences faculty. They belonged to "Muktijuddher Pokkher Shakti" panel. From the opposing panel, "Samonnito Shikkhak Parishad", pro-BNP Prof Sayed Kamrul Ahsan was elected dean to the arts and humanities faculty. A total of 446 teachers cast their vote at the Teacher's Club to elect deans to four out of six faculties of the university yesterday. The result of the election to the social science faculty was suspended, as two rival candidates secured the same number of votes--50. Prof Sajed Asraf Karim and Prof Amir Hossen contested in the election. Election Commissioner and JU Registrar Abu Bakar Siddique said the authorities will announce the result soon. The elected deans to two remaining faculties--law and justice and business studies--are still to finish their current term.
