NHRC boss for creating human rights awareness

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Mizanur Rahman yesterday urged people to create mass awareness to establish human rights for every citizen of Bangladesh. He was addressing as chief guest a views-sharing meeting, “Working together for the promotion of human rights”, organised by NHRC in the Rangpur Deputy Commissioner's conference room. Mizanur Rahman said the country's people fought in the 1971 Liberation War to establish social justice, equal opportunity and self-respect and to achieve social, cultural, economic and political independence by ensuring human rights. He said the government was responsible as per the constitution to ensure human rights for every citizen of the country and NHRC was working to this end. An executive of United Nation's Development Programme for Human Rights Project, Md Zakir Hossain, narrated the NHRC activities. Additional Deputy Commissioner in Rangpur Abul Foyez Mohammad Alauddin Khan presided over the meeting. NHRC Secretary Tazul Islam Chowdhury, Deputy Inspector General of Police for Rangpur Range Binoy Krishna Bala, Superintendent of Police of Rangpur Saleh Mohammad Tanvir, Prof Dr Rezaul Haq, Prof Abdul Alim and Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr Rezaul Karim also spoke at the meeting. Heads of different government and non-government organisations, educational institutions, freedom fighters, businessmen, students, lawyers, socio-cultural and human rights activities and journalists of both print and electronic media took part in the meeting.
