A woman was injured as a bullet hit her due to a claimed accidental firing from a licensed pistol of one of her relatives in the capital's Jatrabari area. With critical injury in her abdomen, Parul Akhter, 45, wife of late Ataur Rahman, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). AKM Abul Kashem, officer-in-charge at Jatrabari Police Station, told this correspondent that he visited the spot. Quoting family members, he said a bullet was accidentally fired from a pistol of imitation ornament trader Md Moniruzzaman, husband of Parul's younger sister, when he was cleaning the weapon around 12:30pm. During the cleaning, a child suddenly came in front of the pistol, and Moniruzzaman tried to turn its barrel to other side to save the child. But a bullet accidentally came out from it, and hit Parul, he added. Moniruzzaman, however, fled the house after the incident.
