RTI playing important role: President
President Zillur Rahman yesterday said access to information is people's right and the Right to Information Act (RTI) is playing an important role in ensuring this right.
The president made the remark when outgoing Chief Information Commissioner Muhammad Zamir called on him at Bangabhaban.
Zillur Rahman praised the role of the outgoing chief information commissioner in creating public awareness about the Right to Information Act.
Zamir said each and every citizen of the country has the right to get information and the Information Commission is working to ensure the right of access to the information for all. “Rules have been framed in this regard.”
He also said a manual on the right to information has been published through combining the Right to Information Act, its rules and different questions and answers that came from different programmes.
Zamir also said some 26,000 authorities have been informed about the act and have been requested to provide information as per requirement.
Secretaries to the President Office were present on the occasion.
