Int'l standard being maintained: Qamrul

Staff Correspondent
State Minister for Law Qamrul Islam yesterday said the trial of people who committed crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War was being held maintaining international standard and transparency. The domestic tribunals are holding the trial, under national laws, of those who committed the crimes, including genocide, rape and forcible eviction of people from the country as collaborators of the Pakistan occupation force, he said. Qamrul was talking to a four-member delegation of the Ugandan High Court at Bangladesh Secretariat. The delegation -- Justices Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dello, Akiiki-Kiiza-Dan and Elizabeth Ibanda-Nahamya, and Assistant Registrar Tadeo Asiimwe -- arrived on a three-day visit on September 3 to gather knowledge and experience about the tribunals.
