CU students protest power cuts
Students of Suhrawardy Hall of Chittagong University brought out a procession on Thursday night protesting the frequent load shedding on the campus, often up to 16 hours a day, since September 1.
“Today (Friday) the power supply was cut off around 1:00pm and restored after three hours. And this is happening periodically,” said one residential student of the hall, Sohel Rana.
A shopkeeper of the southern end of the campus, Md Rashid, said his business was also suffering from the frequent power cuts.
CU Chief Engineer Md Alamgir Chowdhury said, “We have asked the Power Development Board chief engineer to meet the vice-chancellor on Sunday.” He hoped that the problem would be solved by then.
