Road crashes kill three

Three people were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Chittagong, Chapainawabganj and Kishoreganj on Monday and yesterday. Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, jewellery trader Pulak Mitra, 35, son of Kantipada Mitra, hailing from Kelishahar village in Patiya upazila, was killed and two others were injured as a bus knocked a rickshaw carrying him in front of Riffle's Club in Chittagong city early yesterday. Kotwali Police Station Sub-Inspector Supta Dutta said the bus hit the rickshaw from behind while Pulak and his daughter, who was also injured, were going to their shop at Hajari lane from their residence at Firingi Bazar. In Chapainawabganj, an elderly man was killed as a Nachole bound passenger bus from Dhaka hit him while he was crossing Chapainawabganj-Nachole road in Zamtala area of sadar upazila yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Shafiqul Islam, 65, of Namo Razarampur-Malopara in municipality area. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to Chapainawabganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital. UNB from Kishoreganj reports, Awlad Hossain, 70, died after he was run over by a pick-up at Nagua in Kishoreganj town on Monday morning. Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mir Mosharaf Hossain said Awlad was killed on the spot as the pick-up dashed him while he was standing beside the road. Police seized the vehicle but its driver managed to flee the scene.
