Old Dhaka to be rebuilt
Says Abdul Mannan Khan
The government has taken various measures, including updating the existing building code and national housing policy, aiming to rebuild Old Dhaka in a planned way, State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan told in parliament yesterday.
“The government has moved to take a plan titled 'Urban renewal and urban redevelopment' to widen roads in Old Dhaka,” he said.
Abdul Mannan also said his ministry has moved to rebuild the densely populated Old Dhaka in a planned and eco-friendly way with a balanced distribution of people.
He informed lawmakers that the process to update National Housing Policy-2012 is at the final stage.
He said the government has primarily identified 93 century old historic buildings and four roads for preservation.
