12 tonnes of Hilsa seized, 49 fishermen held
Bangladesh Coast Guard (East Zone) members seized three fishing trawlers with around 12 tonnes of mother Hilsa from the outer anchorage area of Chittagong Port on Friday.
They also detained 49 fishermen from the trawlers who were returning after fishing in the sea during the banned period of Hilsa fishing imposed by the government from September 25 to October 5.
Lt Col Mohiuddin Mazumder of Bangladesh Coast Guard (East Zone) said, tipped-off, they raided the fishing trawlers around 11:30pm on Friday and detained the fishermen along with the Hilsa catches.
The fishes and the fishermen were handed over to the fisheries department, he said.
