Abul Maksud urges govt to reconsider tree felling proposal
Columnist Syed Abul Maksud yesterday urged the government to reconsider its proposal to fell 5,696 trees from natural forests beside Joydevpur-Mymensingh highway for the implementation of a road development project.
The cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal, relaxing a 2010 cabinet decision that restricts tree felling from reserved and natural forests till 2015.
On a visit to the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, Abul Maksud said the government had not realised the possible devastation following the felling of such a large number of trees and such steps were unacceptable.
