PM seeks Vietnamese investment

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged the president of Vietnam to encourage his country's business community to avail themselves of the investment facilities on offer in Bangladesh and import pharmaceuticals, jute and jute goods and leather products from the country. Sheikh Hasina made the request to Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang when she met him at his Presidential Palace yesterday afternoon. The prime minister said Vietnam may import its garment accessories and textile materials, plastic goods, footwear, ceramics, handicrafts, potatoes, cosmetics and toiletries from Bangladesh. Prime minister's Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad briefed reporters after the meeting. Azad said the prime minister hoped that her visit to Vietnam would be a milestone in bolstering bilateral relations between Dhaka and Hanoi. “The purpose of my visit to Vietnam is to further strengthen the existing relations and friendship between the two countries as Bangladesh attaches great importance to her relationship with Vietnam,” she told Truong Tan Sang. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who arrived in Vietnam yesterday on a three-day official visit, conveyed greetings of Bangladesh President Zillur Rahman to President Truong Tan Sang. The prime minister laid emphasis on exchange of visits at different levels, political, official and specially trade and business delegation to further strengthen the bilateral relations. She said bilateral relations between the two countries have steadily grown over the years and her visit would further strengthen the relations. Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, among others, was present.
