5 abducted in 3 districts rescued, 8 arrested

Law enforcers rescued two youths, an eight-year-old girl child and two schoolgirls, who were abducted in Tangail, Gaibandha and Narail districts, yesterday and on the previous day. Police and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a joint drive rescued two youths, who were abducted for ransom in Bhuapur upazila of Tangail on Thursday, from Chandina upazila of Comilla district yesterday. The rescued youths are truck driver Rabiul Islam, 32, and garment worker Mansur Farhad Miah, 30, of Faslandi village in Bhuapur of Tangail, reports our correspondent. The law enforcers also arrested three youths in connection with the abduction. The arrestees are Kamal Uddin Rana, 25, and Kaiyum Hossain, 28, of Borkoroy village and Abul Kalam, 26, of Fotehpur village under Chandina upazila in Comilla district. Hares Ali Miah, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bhuapur police station, said being previously known to each other, Kamal came to visit the house of Rabiul at Faslandi village in Bhuapur from Comilla on Wednesday. A day later, Rabiul and his neighbour Farhad along with Kamal went to visit Borkoroy village at Chandina in Comilla. As per previous plan, Kamal and his two friends Kalam and Kaiyum confined Rabiul and Farhad to a house in the village, physically tortured them and called Rabiul's wife over cell phone for Tk 3 lakh ransom, the OC added. However, Rabiul's family informed the matter to Bhuapur police and Rab in Comilla, who later rescued the youths. In Gaibandha, two Rab teams in a joint drive rescued an abducted girl from Simultair village in Shaghata upazila and arrested three people including a woman yesterday. Rab-5 sources said, a gang kidnapped the eight-year-old daughter of garment worker Abdus Salam from her house at Jatrabari in Dhaka on October 21. The abductors later demanded one lakh taka as ransom from the father of the victim, reports our correspondent in Gaibandha. Abdus Salam, however, informed it to Rab-10. A Rab-10 team in collaboration with Rab-5 in Joypurhat made a trap in the name of payment of ransom money through the father of the victim. When Salam went to pay the amount at village Simultair in Shaghata, the elite forces caught the three red-handed. Later as per confession of the arrestees, the team rescued abducted the girl from the house of one Jamaluddin at Simultair village. The arrestees are Jamaluddin, Rezaul and Kohinoor Begum of the village. In Narail, two teenage school students, who were abducted by criminals from Atlia village of Chachuria union in Kalia upazila on October 30, were rescued by police from Avoynagor in Jessore district on Friday. Father of the victims filed a case accusing five people. The accused are Kamrunahar Kochi 23, Rohima Khatun, 16, Moziron, 47, Anayet Hossain, 50, of Atlia village of the same union and upazila of the district and Pannu Mia, 43 of Satkhira district. Quoting local people police said, two daughters of a man of Atlia village in the upazila were going to a market near of their house. A gang forcibly picked them up and took them to an unknown place. On Friday, locals held Kamrunahar Kochi, Rohima Akter on suspicion and handed them over to Kalia police. On the basis of their confession, police rescued the abducted girls from Avoynagar. Motiar Rahman, officer in-charge of Kalia PS said that police were raiding different places to arrest the two other accused.
