Youth murdered in Narsingdi; 5 hurt, houses ransacked in Netrakona

A youth was murdered in Narsingdi while five people were injured and five houses ransacked in Netrakona due to incidents over disputed lands on Friday. A youth was brutally killed by his rivals over a land dispute at Damerbawla village in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi district on Friday night. The deceased was identified as Mubarak Hossain, 30, son of late Olek Mia of Shantibawla village in the upazila, reports UNB. Police and locals said there was a longstanding dispute between Mubarak Hossain and Shuvo Mia of neighboring Damerbawla village over a piece of land. An arbitration meeting was held at 8 pm on the day at Damerbawla village between the rival groups but the issue was not settled. After the meeting, when Mubarak was returning home at about 9 pm, Shuvo along with his supporters swooped on Mubarak. They stabbed him first and later slit his throat with a sharp weapon. In Netrakona, at least five people were injured and five houses ransacked during an attack by the criminals over a piece of disputed land in Nagra area of the district town on Friday night, reports our correspondent. Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between one Ranjit Sarker of the area and his neighbour Mojibur Rahman over the land. As a sequel to the conflict, a gang of 10/15 allegedly led by Mojibur, his three sons Roni, Joni and Ani attacked Ranjit and his family members with lethal weapons, leaving at least five injured at about 8:00pm. The attackers also damaged their houses and looted cash and gold ornaments worth Tk 6.5 lakh. Of the injured, Ranjit, Sanjit and Sanjoy were rushed to Netrakona Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
