JSC, JDC exams begin

A total of 68,115 candidates were absent on the first day of Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations yesterday while 13 examinees were expelled for resorting to unfair means. The absentees' figure was higher than that of last year's. Meanwhile, the examinees sat for Bangla 1st paper examination yesterday at 2,250 centres across the country. A total of 19,08,365 class-VIII students from different schools and madrasas had registered for the examinations this year under eight general education boards and one madrasa education board. Of the absent candidates, 29,327 were from Madrasa board; 15,606 from Dhaka board; 6,136 from Jessore board; 4,388 from Rajshahi board; 3,541 from Chittagong board; 2,871 from Comilla board; 2,669 from Barisal board; 2,492 from Dinajpur board; and 1,225 from Sylhet board, according to board statistics. Madrasa board also had the highest number of expelled examinees, totalling 10, two of whom were arrested for giving proxy examination. The other three expelled students were from Dhaka board and Dinajpur board.
